Opinion on state of gaming

I love games, that can't be denied. But commentators seem to be arguing that both story and gameplay have been on the decline. Personally, We rarely have good stories and some games have dumb gameplay *cough COD cough* but I look at stuff like Kojima's Metal Gear Revengance which seems to have both a thematic story and rapid-fire gameplay.
